This morning, I noticed an improved highway billboard on Route 91 South in Northampton, Massachusetts. It was between exits 21 and 20 and visible from North King Street.

It's 4:30pm now and the message is gone. The billboard again reads that the space is available for rent.

It's most free-standing, so it can be removed if we need to.


I didn't want to spend $200+ to buy something nifty like corrugated plastic for the roof, so I used discarded materials from work - plastic coated printed Gatorboard ™.

Exibit B, this year we get regular visits from a pair of ruby-throated hummingbirds. They love the sugar water I put out (4 to 1 water/sugar) and visit every 15 minutes during the day. It's right outside our kitchen window. The dude hummingbird has the ruby throat, while the babe hummingbird does not.

Built into the side of Bare Mountain in Amherst, Massachusetts before I was born.
It was built for the Cold War, and housed a communications center for Strategic Air Command. Reportedly it had something to do with the Cuban Missile Crisis, an event near and dear to my heart. Really.
And now it is owned by Amherst College. Yesterday I read a story in the New York Times, and much to my surprise, I found a new word: Stooper. A Stooper is a culler, a gatherer, a dumpster-diver.
